How to Re-purpose a Vintage Compact

Updated: Jan 24, 2021

To give credit where credit is due, this is a trick that I redeemed from Dita Von Teese's book Your Beauty Mark. My husband gave me this precious compact mirror for my birthday one year, and I was so happy to get to use it in practicality by doing these steps. I get compliments on it all of the time!

Here is what you will need:

The compact mirror(cleaned out), the pressed powder you desire, rubbing alcohol, a knife or something similar to work with the powder, a small plate or bowl, a freezer, and bonus if you have a powder puff or applicator small enough to fit in the compact. I used one from another compact I had, but you might be able to make one yourself if you are extra crafty!

Step One:

Crush up some of the powder into the small plate or bowl.

Step Two:

Have your compact ready and cleaned out of any dirt or old makeup.

Step Three:

Add the rubbing alcohol with just a few drops at a time. Stir the product until it has a creamy consistency, Not too dry, not too runny.

Step Four:

Scoop the product into the compact as best you can without over flowing it. Smooth the product over with the smooth edge of the knife.

Step Five:

Place your compact in a safe spot in the freezer and let it freeze over night.

And there you have it, all ready to go the next day once the powder has dried! I would just put in the powder applicator, toss it in your purse and touch up your makeup in style!
